Smoothies vs Juices by Rubina Ratnakar

Fruits and vegetables are suggested by all the doctors across the world regardless of your health problem. They are a rich source of all the nutrients required by your body. Doctors often advise fresh juices and smoothies for people of all ages and people just love the different tastes available to them.  But which of them is better? Every fruit juice and a smoothie can be made, which one should you go for? Don’t worry we have got you covered. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar helps you in knowing the better among the two, juices or smoothies.

Juicing is a process in which you peel the fruit and then make its juice. This removes all the pulp and fiber from the fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, blending retains all the pulp and the fibrous substances making it healthier.

All of us are familiar with the fact that antioxidants are beneficial for our body in many ways. The pulp of a fruit or vegetable contains antioxidants as well. So the smoothies contain a lot of fiber along with antioxidants making it a plus point against the juices. Juices only contain the liquid nutrients that lack both of these.

If we talk about the digestion of both juices and smoothies, juices get digested more easily than smoothies due to the absence of fiber. Fibers are complex in nature and take time to digest. Blending breaks the cell walls to some extent so they are not that hard to digest.

Talking about the sugar content, there is no difference in the sugar content of both. One may feel fill full when they consume a smoothie because the pulp makes it heavy but it has sugar equivalent to that of a glass of juice.

Jotting down all the points, if you want something that may digest easily juices are the better option. If you want all the nutrients from the fruit or vegetable you are going to consume, smoothies are your thing. If you want to lose weight you would definitely go with the juices. If we had to choose the one high in nutrient content, the winner would be smoothies!
